Thailand – Laos Bus Service
If your goal is to save money by going overland Thailand and Laos for your Laos adventure, buses are a popular low-cost alternative for crossing the border. Mid-June 2022, Laos and Thailand resumed 9 bus services as the two countries eased travel restrictions imposed after the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic. It’s back!
The state-owned Transport Co of Thailand announced the opening of the routes, some of them operated in cooperation with Lao bus firms. They include services between Bangkok and Vientiane and Bangkok and Pakse in southern Laos.
The nine bus routes of Thailand and Laos are:
1. Nong Khai – Vientiane.
2. Udon Thani – Vientiane.
3. Ubon Ratchathani – Pakse.
4. Khon Kaen – Vientiane.
5. Bangkok – Vientiane.
6. Nakhon Phanom – Thakhek.
7. Udon Thani – Udon Thani International Airport – Nong Kha – Vang Vieng.
8. Chiang Rai – Bokeo.
9. Loei – Luang Prabang.

In the future, Thailand and Laos will also open four other new routes:
+ Khon Kaen – Vientiane.
+ Udon Thani – Vang Vieng.
+ Chiang Mai – Luang Prabang
+ Nan – Luang Prabang.
Passengers are required to have at least two Covid-19 vaccine shots and foreign passport holders need to register on Thailand Pass and show a vaccination certificate before entering Thailand. International travellers to Laos must have health insurance, except Thai citizens.
